Opportunities to Participate

Many ukulele groups have a few people to help lead the songs, rather than a single person up front. It is also a good avenue to help people develop skills in “song leading” – very handy for when our main song leader is unavailable!

The role involves “playing from the front”, facing the audience with a tablet or music stand, playing your Uke, with at least one or two folk providing backup vocals to the song leader.

Please note that this is not a “Special Group of elite players”. It is simply a group of people who are happy to play from the front, and possibly also sing, for our sessions and public performances. It is open to anyone with the basic skills required and a willingness to step-up.
Consider giving this a go – you have nothing to lose and lots to gain 🙂

• Reasonably strong strummer
• Able to pluck out a Riff and read a Tab Diagram (or be willing to learn) (Desirable)
• Willing to sing along / harmonise with the song leader (Desirable)
• Exhibit a smiling face and lots of energy
• Willing to put in some extra time to develop and exercise the above skills

• Initially you would be encouraged to join in a 45 minute “rehearsal workshop” at 11:15 prior to the regular CUB player session.
  During this session for example, we could “Deep-Dive” a song, such as learn a riff or harmony, and then lead it during the session.
• You will not be expected to be out front for every session … hopefully we get enough folk stepping forward to share the load around.
• During startup, there may be additional mid-week or Saturday workshops scheduled to help us “get up to speed”, some of which will be face-to-face, others via Zoom.
• We would hope to have two or three players out front at each of our player sessions, so the role can be spread around amongst those who express interest.

• Seek suitable opportunities for public performances

• Assist in setup and liaison for public performances on site
• Arrange activities for CUB, such as the Clyde River cruise, public performances, busking etc

• Assist the MD with AV setup and monitoring, including at public performances. Some sound/audio/technical skills desirable, but not essential.
• A “good ear” for sound balance highly desirable, as you will have the ability to adjust levels “from the room” via iPad App.
• Training will be provided.
• This will require attendance at all sessions and performances about one hour prior to start to enable setup and sound-check. About 30 minutes after the event will also be required to pack down.

• Sign the EFC Room Hire Form at the front desk on entry, on behalf of CUB.
• Meet and greet folk as they enter
• Ensure sign-in and door payment
• Answer questions and handout any flyers as needed
